Climbing wall guidelines

When coming along to the Climbing Wall at Inverness Leisure we would ask you to take note of the following terms and guidelines for our bouldering and lead walls.

Bouldering Wall – entry requirements

Anyone can sign in and use the Bouldering Wall during public times but if a non-climber – the individual will have to complete a bouldering induction on their first visit.

Children must be accompanied at all times by an adult.

Lead Wall – entry requirements

Experienced adult climbers need only fill in a registration form and they can then climb during public times.

A registered climber may sign in and accompany up to two guests during any visit.

Definition of a registered climbers at Inverness Leisure – an individual who can successfully complete the required registration.

Novice adult climbers who cannot fulfil the requirements of the registration form must be signed in as a guest by a registered climber or be supervised by an instructor at all times.

Climbers under 14yrs – must be accompanied at all times, by a supervising adult climber or qualified instructor.

Climbers over 13yrs but under 18yrs of age can climb unsupervised providing they have attended and achieved all the requirements of the assessment with an IL instructor (whilst accompanied by their parent / guardian), they must then complete the relevant form with signatures of all parties.

Assessment must be booked with an instructor through reception. Climbers will receive a short session on the conditions of use for the Climbing Wall as well as information on bouldering wall safety. Individuals undertaking the assessment  must be able to demonstrate correct use of harness; correct tying of knots and safe practice at belaying and lowering climbers.

The climber will only be signed-off by the instructor to climb unsupervised once they have demonstrated a full practical knowledge of all sections of the assessment.

External climbing instructors and organisations

All Climbing Instructors require to show valid first aid certificate, climbing activity insurance and instructing qualification. These documents must be produced on arrival and will be checked before entry. All documents must be current and valid for use on the date of the chosen activity.

Access to the Climbing Wall outwith the normal opening times may be available to qualified instructors, provided the session is pre-booked. Groups/organisations will be required to provide all of their own equipment for their session.

Groups and individuals are strongly advised to phone and check availability of the Climbing Wall before travelling to Inverness Leisure.
