Useful information about Inverness Leisure
Inverness Leisure consists of Queens Park Athletics Stadium, Sports Centre and Swimming Pools.
The facilities are managed and operated by Caledonia Community Leisure a Company registered in Scotland number SC171812 as well as being recognised by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs as being a registered Charity number SC27392.
Caledonia Community Leisure Limited Trades as “Inverness Leisure”.
The facilities at Inverness Leisure are owned by The Highland Council but are leased on a long term agreement to Caledonia Community Leisure Limited.
The Board of Non-Executive Directors (referred to as Trustees) has 12 voting delegates. It also has 4 non-voting Staff Advisors who are voted onto the Board by their departmental peers.
The current Chairperson is local businesswoman Mrs Ella MacRae. She has been in the position since August 2011.
The current General Manager is Mr James W Martin. He has been with the Company since October 2000 taking over the Chief Officer position in 2002.
The Senior Management Team consists of Mr Craig Steedman (Head of Operations) and Mrs Ailsa Puckrin (Head of Finance & Administration).
The Company employs around 140 staff – equating to around 80 full-time-equivalents.
Staff members in Inverness Leisure are referred to as “Associates” in order to develop as flat a structure as possible.
The staff gender split is around 50:50, very slightly weighted towards the females.
Before they are allowed to work in any capacity, all Associates and Board members are vetted through the Disclosure Scheme in order to check their suitability to work/be associated with children and vulnerable groups.
The facility has picked up the following awards:
- Visitscotland 4 star standard visitor attraction;
- Green Business Tourism Award – Gold Standard;
- Hospitality Assured – Inverness Leisure is believed to be the first leisure centre in the world to achieve the standard;
- Local awards – as best Facility and Children’s facilities;
- The Company has also been recognised for the work it does in working with employees with Disabilities and Learning difficulties;
- Achieved the “Double Tick” award for approach to job applicants with Disabilities;
The facility is currently working towards achieving the LGBT Charter Mark.
The facility has recovered following a large electrical fire in one of the leisure pool plant rooms in September 2008. Some parts of the facility were closed for almost 6 months following the incident.
Inverness Leisure received £900,000 per annum from Highland Council as a contribution towards the management of the facilities.
The Company’s turnover is in excess of £3 million.
Inverness Leisure is a member of the Sports Trust Association in both the UK and Scotland.
When benchmarked against similar facilities throughout Scotland, Inverness Leisure compares extremely favourably and retains its place in the top quartile of performance figures.
The Company General Manager Chairs the Sporta Scotland HR & Training Group which meets quarterly throughout the Country.

Inverness Leisure achieved one of its business targets of reaching 1 million customers through its doors in a 12 month period, further increasing the value for money the Company offers to Highland Council for delivering its services.
