Helping children with autism to enjoy swimming
Going swimming should be fun and exciting for the whole family. For children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it can be stressful.
Adjusting to the new environment, with its different sights, sounds, smells, feelings and tastes, can be overwhelming.
The ASD Swim Scheme, developed exclusively by Inverness Leisure in partnership with The National Autistic Society Scotland is believed to be the first of its kind in the Country and it is the hope of all those in the creation of this scheme that it may assist and support in producing best practice in swimming pools throughout the Country.
We hope that the Swim scheme information booklet along with the access vouchers will help families with a child or children on the Autistic Spectrum to make the necessary preparations for their first few visits to the swimming pool.
If your child has already received a diagnosis of Autism and you would now like to access the Swim passes associated with the scheme you should contact the National Autistic Society Scotland in Inverness on 01463 720056.
We strongly advise you visit our Safety Admissions page to make sure that you aware of the necessary adult:child ratios when you come to use the swimming pool to avoid any disappointments.
