Sports Activities

The Sports Centre has just as large a programme with various programmed classes for children.

Our activities include things like badminton, athletics and trampolining as well as balanceability, climbing and mini gym just to give a flavour of what is offered.

At Inverness Leisure, we take great pride in all of our staff and this is the reason that all our instructors and coaches are fully qualified and approved to be working with children and vulnerable adults.

Balanceability – Balanceability provides children with a great opportunity to become competent cyclists at an early age through the development of balance and control. The classes are made up of progressive learning experiences, incorporating fun ways to learn to cycle on balance bikes. Classes are suitable for children aged 2 ½ – 5 years.

Futsal – Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world.  Futsal soccer skills are the foundation of every player’s development and become essential for progress.  Suitable for children aged 3-5 years.

Jumping For Fun –  This class is a great way to develop new skills and improve co-ordination in this fun activity on the trampolines.  Suitable for children aged 3 1/2 -5 years.

Mini Athletics – During this class we aim to teach the basic movements for running, jumping and throwing while learning the essential skills for athletics such as balance, co-ordination and flexibility.

Mini Climbing – Take part in safe and enjoyable sessions as a first step to climbing.  Learn how to master the skills of vertical movement through fun and exciting climbing games in a controlled and friendly environment.  Suitable for children aged 3-5 years.

Mini Gym – This activity allows children to play mini games and sports to help build their coordination and social skills while having fun.  Great activity suitable for 2 1/2 -5 year old children.

Play & Go – A supervised play session involving a soft play circuit and bouncy castle.  This class is suitable for all children who can walk.  Sessions are split into age groups for children aged over 3 and under 3.

Athletics – Our athletics classes are tailored to suit children of all skill levels from beginners and less experienced youngsters up to those who have already participated in athletics programmes. While taking part in a vast amount of athletics activities the programme focuses on the fundamental movement skills, important in every child’s development.

Badminton – Our sessions are suitable for children of all abilities. Our classes include a warm up, followed by badminton specific coaching on movement and racket skills. During the sessions children will get the chance challenge each other and our coaches.

Club Pathway – Club Pathway consists of a 12 week block of swimming sets and assessments. Club Pathway prepares children for their entry assessment for Inverness Swimming Club. Children must have completed the Inverness Leisure Learn To Swim Scheme prior to booking this course.

Futsal – Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world.  Futsal soccer skills are the foundation of every player’s development and become essential for progress.

Introduction To Climbing – Our 6 week block introduction to climbing classes provide children the opportunity to become familiar with heights whilst participating in fun and friendly bouldering games and scale the heights of our 10m high main wall. Older Age groups will also learn how to fit their own harnesses, tie knots and belay (hold the rope) for their fellow climbers.

Introduction to Lifeguarding – Developed especially to appeal to 8 – 15 year olds, the Introduction to Lifeguarding scheme teaches children how to swim and enjoy water safely, whether in shallow or deep water. Built into the programme are lessons in valuable survival, rescue and sports skills…all delivered in an exciting way that will get children involved and motivated.

Mini Tennis – Played on smaller courts, with short rackets and lower bouncing balls, mini tennis is a fun and   enjoyable session for all.  Classes include lots of exciting drills and games associated with  tennis.

Stroke Improvement (swimming) – Our stroke improvement course is designed to further develop stroke technique for all four strokes whilst working on swimming fitness. Children who have not completed the Inverness Leisure Learn to Swim Scheme must arrange a swimming assessment prior to booking this course.

Trampolining – We offer blocks of trampoline coaching for complete beginners or those who have previous experience.  We aim to promote trampolining in a safe and fun environment while allowing the children to learn exciting routines.

JUNIOR SPORTS ACTIVITIES (TERM TIME)

NICAS – The National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes are UK wide schemes designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It can be used as a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering. The schemes are open to all candidates aged 7 and upwards.
